Feature: Right-click menu option that applies default preps to an individual opening in the Complete window.
Purpose: To add default preps to a new product or opening in a project that already has default preps and prep customizations. The system pulls and applies the default prep data to the selected opening without overwriting customizations on other openings, which would occur using the Reapply Preps button. The default preps are in addition to the preps that already exist on the opening i.e. the feature does not overwrite existing preps.
Environment: Comsense Advantage (Version 21.2.100.185 and later)
How it works:
About Hardware Prep Application in the Complete Window
To correctly apply default preps using this feature, you need to understand the prep source location and scope of the prep application. The source locations define the two options available in the right-click menu. It is important to use the correct option when using this feature. The location you access the right-click menu defines the scope of the application.
Hardware Prep Source Location
There are two options for the hardware prep source locations. The locations are defined in the right-click menu as:
- Apply default hardware preps
- This means applying the preps as defined for each product
- Apply default set preps
- This means applying the preps as defined for a hardware set
Apply Default Hardware Preps
Applying default hardware preps, applies the appropriate preps as defined in the Default Preps window's Product Default Preps tab.
Default Set Preps
Applying default preps by hardware set preps, applies the appropriate preps as defined in the Default Preps window's Hardware Set Preps tab.
Hardware Prep Source Location Best Practices
Best practices for this feature depend on where you are in your project. It is best practice to:
- Apply the default prep sets if you are:
- In estimating
- Detailing in the original project before assigning headings
- Apply default hardware preps if you:
- Have assigned headings
- Are in a change order
Scope of the Hardware Prep Application
The largest scope of this feature is applying hardware preps to an entire opening. You can further narrow the scope by applying door or frame preps by hardware product within the opening.
Any time you apply the default preps in the Complete window, the system prompts the Heading Synch dialog box asking if you want to apply the preps to all openings within the hardware set number.
Clicking Yes applies the preps to all openings within the set number.
Clicking No only applies the preps to the selected opening or door or frame for the selected hardware product.
Clicking X cancels the prep application.
Default Hardware Preps on an Opening
When you apply the default preps on an opening, each piece of hardware with a prep configuration for the door and frame manufacturer will populate. To apply the default preps on an entire opening, Open the right-click menu from the opening line item.
Default Hardware Preps from a Hardware Product
Comsense allows you to narrow down the prep application by applying door or frame preps by hardware product. When you apply the default preps on a door or frame for a specific hardware product, you must apply the door and frame prep separately. To apply the default preps on a door or frame for a piece of hardware, Open the right-click menu from the door prep or frame prep field on the hardware line item.
Applying the Default Preps
In the Complete window:
- Right-click on the opening line item or hardware product prep field
- Click the appropriate source location option
- Apply Default Hardware Preps
- Apply Default Set Preps
In the Heading Synch dialog box:
- Click Yes or No
