How to: Use the filter & replace feature.

What is Filter & Replace?
Filter and replace is a feature that allows you to filter a list of line items to a smaller list and uniformly update all filtered line items with the same information. This feature is available in multiple windows across Comsense. The filter and replace feature increases the efficiency of updating multiple line items.
The three types of filter and replace are slightly different and are distinguished by their section of the software:
Door & Frame Scheduling (Advantage)
*Note: The Door and Frame scheduling windows save automatically, be attentive when using the filter and replace feature!
This section applies to the Door and Frame scheduling windows in the Estimating and Detailing sections of Advantage. In these windows:
- You must manually turn on the filter and replace feature
- Filter and replace are two separate line items when the feature is turned on
- You must include the manufacturer in the filter and replace line items
- The manufacturer determines the field options
- Updates save automatically
The Filter line item is above the Replace line item.
The Replace line item is below the Filter line item.
Filtering in the Door & Frame Scheduling Windows
*Note: To filter a list by empty fields, use the # symbol as your filter criteria.
In the Door or Frame window:
- Check the Filter checkbox
- The Filter and Replace line items will appear
In the Filter line item:
- Enter the Mfg Code
- Enter the filter criteria
- Click the filter Checkmark
- The list will filter according to the filter criteria
Replacing in the Door & Frame Scheduling Windows
*Note: To clear fields using the replace feature, replace the fields with the # symbol.
In the Door or Frame window:
- Check the Replace checkbox
In the Replace line item:
- Enter the Mfg Code
- Enter the replace information
- Click the replace Checkmark icon
The filtered line items now include the Replace line item information.
Tip: Clear the Replace line item immediately after making your changes to prevent any accidental changes.
To clear the Replace line item, Click the X icon.
Advantage
This section applies to filter and replace in Advantage except the Door and Frame scheduling windows. In these windows:
- There is one line item for both the Filter and Replace function
- You must select Filter or Replace using the radio buttons
- Filter is selected by default
- Updates do not save automatically
Using Filter & Replace in Advantage
*Note: To filter a list by empty fields, use the # symbol as your filter criteria.
In the fillable line item:
- Enter the filter criteria
- Click the Checkmark icon
- You can use the checkmark icon next to the radio buttons selections OR on the fillable line item
- Click the Replace radio button
- The fillable line item will clear
In the fillable line item:
- Enter the replacement information
- Click the Checkmark Icon
- The fields will update
- Click Save
The filtered line items now include the Replace line item information.
Tip: Save after each filter and replace is done correctly.
Clearing Fields in Advantage
In the Advantage window:
- Click the Set Null radio button
In the fillable line item:
- Check the checkbox above the column to clear
- Click the Checkmark icon
- Click Save
The fields in the checked column are now cleared.
Enterprise
This section applies to filter and replace in Enterprise. In these windows:
- Filter and replace are two line items
- The Filter line item is above the Replace line item
- The Replace line item is below the Filter line item
- Updates do not save automatically
Using Filter & Replace in Enterprise
In the Filter line item:
- Enter the filter criteria
- The list will filter automatically
In the Replace line item:
- Enter the replacement information
- Click the Replace icon
- The fields will update
- Click Save
The filtered line items now include the Replace line item information.
Filtering Empty Fields & Clearing Fields in Enterprise
The option to filter a list containing empty fields and to clear fields is included in the drop-down lists of the Filter and Replace line items.
To filter empty fields, Select (Blanks) in the drop-down lists in the Filter line item.
To clear fields, Select {Clear} in the drop-down lists in the Replace line item.
